2016 marked the 100th anniversary of the April 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin. This month’s round-up features a reference to Ciara Chambers’ chapter about the portrayal of the aftermath of the Rebellion in cinema newsreels, which can be found in Making 1916 : Material and Visual Culture of the Easter Rising. This collection of essays, which is edited by Lisa Godson and Joanna Brück ,and published by Liverpool University Press, takes as its starting point the rich variety of objects and images associated with the Rising.
Another centenary, which, unlike the Easter Rising, passed without being celebrated was the 100th anniversary of the feature film in 2015.
