Archive Programme Pitching Competition

Archive Programme Pitching Competition
Inspiring a new generation of filmmakers to love footage!
Deadline for submissions: 14 october 2013

FOCAL International, the trade association representing the footage archive industry, is holding a competition for up and coming doc makers to find the best pitch for an archive based programme. Finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas at a major conference being held at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London on Monday 28th October. The conference entitled Battles of the Archives – a thing of the Past!  is part of FOCAL International’s one day event to mark UNESCO’s World Audiovisual Archive Day.

‘We are inviting aspiring students and start-up documentary filmmakers to pitch their ideas for any form of production which will include lots of archive footage,’ said Chair Sue Malden. ‘Six of the best entries will be invited to pitch their project at the conference to acclaimed history producers such as Richard Melman and Taylor Downing, plus archive producers, library managers and researchers.’

To the Victor the spoils

The winner of this selection process will receive 10 minutes of ‘free’ footage donated by Getty Images. Plus, Prime Focus will sponsor the production of a 5 minute taster tape, including online, grading and sound desks. Spring Films will then endeavour to place the completed taster tape with broadcasters, with the possibility of a programme being commissioned.
