20,000 new items being added to EUscreen
Published: 11 April 2013EUscreen is back and the new three-year initiative will see over 20,000 new items – mainly selected from long-running factual series, documentaries, newsreels and magazine programmes – added to the 30,000 items already available on the EUscreen portal.
The BUFVC will work with 32 partners across Europe and, as UK partner, will once again collaborate with Royal Holloway, University of London and Cinecittà Luce, Italy to deliver a content selection strategy and metadata framework that aligns the heterogeneous collections held throughout Europe.
The project aims to encourage researchers, teachers and the general user to explore Europe’s rich and culturally diverse history, particularly its television history, with content dating from the early twentieth century up to the present day. By making long-running series from different countries available in one place, the project will open up new possibilities for historical and comparative analysis, both within individual countries and across national borders.
As the main audiovisual content aggregator for Europeana, EUscreen aims to provide 1 million metadata records giving access to digital content held by European partners via the Europeana portal, promoting and maximising awareness for a shared pan-European audiovisual content policy among broadcasters, heritage institutions and archives.
The first phase of the EUscreen project ran from 2009 – 2012. Access the free online portal here.
