EUscreen releases Online Exhibitions

The EUscreen project has introduced its online exhibitions to a growing portal that provides free access to Europe’s rich television history from broadcasters and audiovisual archives.

The online exhibitions combine expert knowledge and a range of material to showcase subjects covering historical events, political debates and everyday life in Europe. They highlight key areas and debates through a collection of selected moving image archives, photographs and articles in popular topics such as Culture in European, French Television History, Fashion and Food & Drink.

The current collection brings online 10 exhibitions created by archivists, researchers and enthusiasts. Many more will become available as the project continues, including new tools allowing users to create their own exhibitions.

EUscreen began in October 2009 as a three-year project, funded by the European Commission’s eContentplus programme. Throughout the project’s duration more than 30,000 items representing Europe’s television heritage including videos, photographs and articles will be made available online through a freely accessible multilingual portal. EUscreen is co-ordinated by University of Utrecht and its consortium consists of 28 partners and 10 associate partners from 20 different European countries. The BUFVC is a UK project partner.
