Call for Participation: Off-Air Recording Union Catalogue Trial

As announced at the BUFVC AGM in December 2011, the BUFVC is planning to create a trial union catalogue for off-air recordings as part of the Shared Services Project funded by HEFCE.

Collections are at risk in many institutions, particularly those held in VHS because it is often seen as an old format which takes up space, but at the same time many libraries have invested substantially in off-air recording and its licensing over the past few decades.

The BUFVC is proposing, through a union catalogue, to collect information about off-air collections to determine which recordings are unique or at risk of being lost. This information would then allow libraries to not only share knowledge but to take an informed approach to disposal, reducing the risk of losing valuable or rare recordings at a national level.

The BUFVC is looking for 8 institutions to participate in the creation of the trial off-air recording union catalogue.

Further details can be found on the Union Catalogue page.

Register your interest in joining the trial by contacting Hetty via email or 020 7393 1521. Deadline: Tuesday 31 January 2012.
