Public consultation on BBC service changes

http://consultations.external.bbc.co.uk/bbc/dqf/

A public consultation has just been launched on proposals put forward by the BBC Executive on how it can best deliver the highest quality programmes and content to audiences within the reduced funding provided by the new licence fee settlement.  These proposals are outlined in the document Delivering Quality First.

After efficiency savings and a 25% cut to BBC online, £205 million remains to be saved from the annual content budgets for BBC services by 2016/17. It is proposed to protect key editorial areas such as news, and comedy and drama on BBC1, with the main impact falling on the smaller channels – BBC2 to show more repeats, and BBC4 and BBC3 making cuts to drama output.

The consultation runs until 21 December 2011 and the BBC Trust will reach its conclusions early in 2012.
