Standard Membership

Standard Membership is £533 plus VAT at the rate of 20%.

Standard Membership is the entry-level membership to Learning on Screen – the British Universities and Colleges Film and Video Council and is available to all institutions of further and higher education in the United Kingdom.

Benefits include the following:

  • Information Service – use of the Learning on Screen’s Information Service by phone or e-mail
  • DVD copies of formerly broadcast content – up to 24 copies per annum delivered from the Learning on Screen’s Off-Air Recording Back-Up Service – an essential service for those needing to acquire copies of content they missed the opportunity to record locally. The Learning on Screen stores more than 14 years of blanket recording derived from 8 UK television channels – BBC1, BBC2, BBC3 (up to February 2016), BBC4, ITV, Channel 4, Five and More4, as well as BBC Radio 4 (from September 2008) and BBC Radio 4 Extra (from September 2009).
  • Access to exclusive member only content at Viewfinder Digital
  • Access to TRILT for all staff and students – TRILT is the Television and Radio Index for Learning and Teaching – the most comprehensive online database and personalised alert service for broadcasts received in the UK. It carries more than 27 million records of television and radio programmes with links to sources of copies
  • Use of the TRILT online ordering system – to request DVD copies of formerly broadcast programmes
  • Discounts for attendance at Learning on Screen events – discount registration charges for courses, conferences and events
  • Discounts for use of Learning on Screen meeting facilities at 77 Wells Street, London W1 – within 5 mins walk of Oxford Circus, the seminar room offers seating capacity for up to 20, sophisticated video conferencing facilities, multi format video playout, bright data projection, surround sound and primary connection into the JANET network
  • Learning on Screen book publications at discount prices – including Cinema Before Cinema, Shakespeare on Film, Television and Radio and The Researcher’s Guide: Film, Television, Radio and Related Documentation Collections in the UK
  • Representation at Learning on Screen General Meetings (one vote may be carried by each member institution)
  • Optional upgrade for use of BoB for institutions holding an ERA licence

N.B. Institutions at this level of membership are able to ‘carry over’ any unused benefits of membership, including Off-Air copies for use in the following membership year. These may not be carried over for more than one year.

In addition, Standard Membership may be upgraded to Premier or Enhanced Premier Membership.

The rates shown here apply from 1 August 2018 to 31 July 2019.

All applications for membership should be made by letter to the Chief Executive of Learning on Screen and must be formally approved by the Executive Committee before acceptance. The letter should come from the registrar, director or other appropriate person (where applicable) and should, if possible, name the representative proposed.
