Europeana Digital Service Infrastructure (DSI)

Duration: April 2015 – March 2016

Funded by: Connecting Europe Facility – Telecommunications

Partner(s): Europeana and the entire Europeana network of domain, thematic and national aggregators, including EUscreen

Key objectives:

The aim of the project is to ensure the continued operation of the Europeana Digital Service Infrastructure (DSI) and to facilitate the transition of the Europeana website from a portal to a multi-sided platform, offering a variety of services to data providers, end users and re-users. Key objectives are to innovate the aggregation infrastructure to make it easier for providers to add their content to the Europeana site; improve the quality of metadata and the quantity of digital objects available; increase the amount of objects with open licencing conditions; develop more thematic channels; and to create a series of ‘Expert Hubs’ across the Europeana network.

BUFVC involvement / Project outcomes:

The BUFVC (working as sub-contractors for the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision) will develop training and learning resources, designed to assist the expanding EUscreen network of European television and broadcast archives, with the objective of making EUscreen the expert hub in the audiovisual domain. These activities will include:

  • Researching and creating content for an online course, featuring a variety of resources aimed at raising the competency level of data providers.
  • The organisation of an expert workshop for approximately twenty additional partners to the EUscreen network.
  • Providing new partners with a support package after the workshop to ensure the smooth progress of the aggregation of their content to Europeana.
