- British and American troops converge. Canadians smash through Hitler line on river Melfa. Minesweepers at work. Tanks advance. Canadians take their quota of prisoners. At dawn in Liri valley, a battalion moves up. The capture of Aquina. Approach to Pontecorvo. Allied airforce overhead. Polish troops take prisoners at Piedi Monte. General Alexander sees parade of Polish forces with their Commander in Chief, General Anders. US troops enter Rome. Overjoyed populace. Italian people shake their fists at the quislings who have been operating the Italian radio stations. US NATIONAL ARCHIVE ENTRY: 10 min, sd, B&W, 35mm British and US units celebrate outside Rome. Canadian tanks and infantry move through mud preceded by mine sappers. Eighth Army tanks advance toward Ponte Corvo; field guns are fired. Infantry and machine gun units fight in the streets of Aquina. Polish troops enter Piedi Monte, fire field guns, move prisoners to the rear, and are reviewed by Generals Anders and Alexander.
