Description
The development of sound broadcasting, Guglielmo Marconi, and the wireless and beginnings at Chelmsford, Essex. Betty Hantz, Marconi historian, tells of his life from childhood, his interest in wireless broadcasting and how the idea that he patented became his life’s work. Also on the tests he faced to get his idea to work across the curvature of the Earth, and Ernie Pagett(?), an assistant of Marconi’s, recalls the first transatlantic radio signal to be sent. Original clips of the early radio shows are included. The Marconi company intended only for information to be transmitted, not entertainment- looks at the rise of entertainment broadcasting. Doug Holden(?) of Marconi on work on recent commercial radio. Narrated by Steve Wood, produced by John Wellington, researched and compiled by Dennis Rookard and Dave Gilby.
