Andrew Jones presents s special programme entitled A Free Taste of Whisky - the story and history of whisky in the USA and Scotland. Speaks to Max Shapiro, head of Evan Williams Distillery on their producing the first whiskey in Kentucky in 1783. Bill Samuels, President of Kentucky Bourbon, does a tour of Bardstown. Booker Noe, former master distiller at the Jim Beam Distillery on the generations that followed Jim Beam; also speaks to Don Calvin, Jim Beam Plant Manager. Jack Custer, writer and direct descendent of General George Armstrong Custer, on the boats used to transport whiskey. Bully(?) Sullivan explains how Jack Daniels is produced in Lynchburg, Tennessee; Sammy Gully(?) shows the leeching or charcoal mellowing process; Bob Blue of Brown-Forman, who produce Jack Daniels, on its international expansion. David Donald of Glenlivet on malt whisky - Glenlivet was the first malt whisky distillery to be licensed. Willie Phillips, Managing Director, on Macallan, made at Craigellachie. Ian MacGregor of Glenmorangie explains the name. Roy MacMillan of Distillers Company gives a tasting. Sally Bulloch(?) of the Athenaeum Hotel in Piccadilly on their stocking fifty-six malt whiskies. Wallace Milroy of the Soho Wine Market names two whiskies by smell and taste. Starts with music Scotland the Brave. Breaks in recording at 13, 27, 42 minutes, where adverts edited out.
