The British Airways Concorde is flying to Bahrain; simultaneously, Air France is launching its first commercial flight from Paris to Rio de Janeiro. Christopher Hourmouzious reports live from the roof of the Tavern in the Sky on the take-off of Concorde. Minister of Aviation, Julian Amery commends the achievement of Concorde. We also hear from John Cochrane, deputy chief test pilot; Terry Hughes, author of the book, Battle for Concorde; Andrew Wilson of the anti-Concorde lobby. Actor Roy Kinnear reads Barry Winchester’s competition-winning poem on Concorde. Midday news from Douglas Cameron follows, covering Concorde’s maiden flight and including a speech from Trade Secretary, Peter Shore. Norman Baxter also gives a travel update. Brian Hayes then speaks to listeners about Concorde’s launch. Ends with Dominic Allan introducing the sports news before being cut off. Various news bulletins, adverts and stock updates throughout.
