Artsweek, presented by Sue Jameson. General Secretary of the Arts Council, Luke Rittner talks about the new funding strategy which moves greater power over funding to the regions. Dr Jonathan Miller on the effects of cutting Arts Council funding to some arts organisations. John McGrath, Director of the 7:84 England Company, explains why he believes politics were behind the Arts Council decision to cut the company’s funding. Labour leader Neil Kinnock talks about the play The Six Men of Dorset, at its performance by the 7:84 England Company. Actor Alex McCrindle, who was in the original cast of the play, recalls his experiences of the tour. Actor Sir John Gielgud, entertainer Danny La Rue, singer Dulcie Gray, actor Sir John Mills and his wife Lady Mary Mills on the entertainer Noel Coward after a memorial to him was unveiled in London. Recordings of Coward singing Mad Dogs and Englishmen, The Party’s Over and Don’t Put Your Daughter on the Stage. Actor Nicol Williamson talks about his role as Lord Mountbatten in a new television series, The Last Viceroy. An excerpt from the new West End show, Starlight Express is followed by an interview with actor Lon Satton who plays Poppa McCoy in the show.
