Description
Andrew Manderstam reports on the hostage crisis in Iran. US Charge d’Affaires in Tehran, Bruce Laingen has been able to contact members of the revolutionary government. US President Carter is seeking an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the Iranian situation. He wants a communique condemning the siege of the Embassy and to claim the safeguard of diplomatic immunity. US Secretary General Kurt Waldheim would offer to fly to Iran after the communique if he were needed. Mohamed Ali would be prepared to take the place of an American diplomat. The Americans have called for Iranian students to be deported.
