A Romanian-born academic who has been speaking to his 79 year-old mother in the southern part of the country says that demonstrations against the Government are spreading. Dr Michael Colesnic, a biochemist who fled Romania fourteen years ago, says the trouble is taking place in towns close to borders with the Soviet Union, Hungary and Yugoslavia. He believes President Ceausescu’s days are numbered. Interviewer is Tim Knight.
