Julie Sedgwick interviews businessman Richard Branson about the failure of his record-breaking attempt to fly a balloon across the Pacific. He and co-pilot Per Lindstrand were just 45 minutes from take-off when they discovered several of the balloon’s panels had been damaged by frost. They decided it would have been too dangerous to try to make an ocean crossing. He says they’ve postponed the trip until early in 1990.
