- David O’Sullivan reports on a meeting in South Africa between President F.W. de Klerk and 3 leading anti-apartheid clerics: Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Reverend Frank Chikane, General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches, and Dr Allan Boesak, president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. They presented a two-page memorandum with a list of six steps for the Government to take immediately to facilitate future negotiations.The clerics were impressed with de Klerk’s attitude but not enough to call off demands for more economic sanctions.
