- Description
- Paul Rowley reports on the maiden speech as a politician by former Olympic gold medallist Sebastian Coe, at the Conservative Party conference in Blackpool. Addressing a fringe meeting organised by the right-wing Centre for Policy Studies, he says he became a Conservative as a reaction to left-wing militancy in the 1970s and the party is not uncaring. He plans to retire from the track next year and hopes to be selected as a candidate for the next election.
