- Description
- David O’Sullivan reports from South Africa on the re-election of President F.W. de Klerk’s National Party with a much reduced majority in the country’s 1989 General Election. The right-wing Conservative Party remains the official opposition, but a proportionally bigger surge in support was achieved by the Democratic Party. The election was held against a backdrop of police violence against anti-apartheid protesters. Includes comments by F.W. de Klerk; Zach de Beer, Democratic Party.
