- Havovi Todd reporting on concern over a failure in new signalling equipment at Wimbledon, in the light of the Clapham Junction rail disaster. Chris Jackson of the Railway Gazette agreeing with British Rail that there had been no risk to trains or passengers. General Secretary of the train drivers union ASLEF, Derrick Fullick, on BR’s complacency and that the new system should not be tested on an operational network. Leader of the National Union of Railwaymen, Jimmy Knapp, on such incidents resulting from tightened resources and that the new network is not ready for driver-only operation.
