- Description
- Washington correspondent Simon Marks reports on record numbers of Cubans still fleeing Fidel Castro’s communist regime despite US president Bill Clinton’s decision to no longer grant them automatic rights of residence. Since Castro lifted his embargo on citizens leaving the country, thousands have braved the seas to try and reach Florida. The Havana government has expressed its willingness to talk with the USA over the matter but Clinton has refused. Includes statements by President Clinton; Lieutenant Commander Jim Howe, US coastguard.
