- Description
- Karen English looks back at the history of the mainly Protestant Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) who will today merge with the mainly Catholic Royal Irish Rangers to become the Royal Irish Regiment. The idea proposed by then Defence Secretary Tom King has met opposition from Unionist politicians and servicemen but republicans have long called for UDR disbandment. Includes UDR band music; the Queen speaking on a trip to Northern Ireland paying tribute to those who have died in the UDR.
