Description
Andrew Manderstam reports on the launch of the 10th flight of the Challenger Space Shuttle, beginning with the countdown. Commander Vance Brand controlled the flight into the Florida sky. The shuttle has a five-man crew which includes the second black US astronaut to fly into space. They are planning on having the first-ever totally free space walk. Astronauts Bruce McCandless and Robert Stewart will venture up to 300 feet from the craft. Democratic presidential candidate and former astronaut John Glenn says he dreamed of the day you would be able to work outside the craft. Arthritic rats are also being sent into space on this flight. In eight days the craft will be landing in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Previous flights landed in California or Texas.
