Description
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is to attend the funeral of Emperor Hirohito of Japan. The controversial decision follows much speculation over whether the royal family, who were criticised for not attending the Lockerbie memorial service, would go to the Japanese ceremony and run the risk of offending Second World War veterans. Ex-serviceman, Sergeant Philip Meninsky(?) from New Morden was enslaved with tens of thousands of others to build the Burmese railway; he expresses his disgust and speaks of the suffering and slow deaths of many POWs.
