Description
Wartime fighter pilot hero Sir Douglas Bader, who collapsed and died suddenly in London early today, aged 72, had many connections with Berkshire. He lived on a farm at Hermitage and, for many years, kept his private plane at White Waltham airfield. After the crash in which he lost both legs, he was treated in the Royal Berkshire Hospital at Reading. And a life-long friend is retired Air Vice Marshall Joe Cox who lives at Caversham. He was at his home this morning when Jenny Lacey of LBC asked him how he first met Sir Douglas. [Box 5]
