Traditional Airs
Date

Description
A concert of classical music based on the traditional songs and dances of Europe. The programme will feature four leading soloists coming together in a rendition of some well-loved works, as well as the first broadcast of three pieces by Peter Maxwell-Davies specially arranged by percussionist Gregory Knowles.Programme: DVORAK: - Dumky trio for piano, violin and cello. This is thought to be his most important chamber work, drawing heavily on traditional Slavonic music. The Dumka is a sung ballad. RAVEL: - Jeux d’eau, for piano solo. Inspired by Liszt’s piece on the Villa d’Este, it is a lyrical tone poem of great beauty. RAVEL: - Tzigane, for violin and piano. This tour-de-force for virtuoso playing was written in imitation of the gipsy style. See also C1000/027/85/2
