Synopsis
Recording of a live virtual event in which Brutus is put on trial for treason and the murder of Julius Caesar. The proceedings are run by real legal professionals: Erwin Chemerinsky (Berkeley Law) appears for the prosecution, Bernadette Meyler (Stanford Law) for the defence wth the Honorable judge Andrew Guilford presiding. The audience watching live decides whether Brutus is guilty or innocent (see notes for the result).

The event is hosted by Eli Simon and Julia Lupton, co-directors of the New Swan Shakespeare Center.

The evening begins with a scene from Shakespeare’s play, performed by Maya Smoot as Mark Anthony and Greg Ungar as Brutus, both from New Swan Shakespeare Festival, directed by Beth Lopes. They performs Act 3 Scene 2 (Caesar’s funeral).
