Synopsis
Lecture delivered by Khalid Amine at the University of New England’s Center for Global Humanities that examines the radical shift in performing Shakespeare in Arab countries since the 1960s. Includes a brief extract (with subtitles) of a performance of ‘The Al Hamlet Summit’ by Sulayman Al-Bassam recorded at the Tokyo International Arts Festival in 2004, which re-imagines Shakespeare’s tragedy for the post 9/11 world.
