How Shakespeare Inspired Freedom Movements

Synopsis
Short video series in which Shakespeare academics and students talk to camera about an aspect of Shakespeare’s work. The aim is to persuade foreign students to study Shakespeare in Britain. Ewan Fernie is a Professor of Shakespeare Studies at The Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon with the University of Birmingham. Professor Fernie explains the vital force of Shakespeare for revolution over the centuries, as Shakespeare was intimately involved in the Chartist movement, which aimed to give the working class the vote. He also talks about the modern-day struggle for freedom and the links it has to Shakespeare.
