Can a Computer Write Shakespeare?
- Synopsis
- Radio broadcast. Trevor Cox of Salford University considers whether a computer could ever create a work of art that could match Shakespeare’s creativity or stand up to critical scrutiny. He has a 3D model made of his head, which until recently would have had to be done by a sculptor, and speaks to Gustavo Diaz-Jerez, who is involved in creating a music software whose compositions have been performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, before testing computer-created music and poetry on critics and academics. He also talks to Margaret Boaden about the deeper philosophical issues raised by computer creativity. With contributions by Simon Colton, Mark D’Inverno, Philip Ball, Tom Service, Andrew Biswell and Martin Kratz.
