Henry V Globe Theatre

Synopsis: Uses an excerpt from Olivier’s 1944 production of HENRY V to demonstrate the Globe theatre. Opens with a shot of an elaborate model of London in 1600 and shows London bridge, a general impression of the city as a whole and finally, the Globe theatre. Goes on to demonstrate preparations for the performance, the size and nature of the stage and the function of the musicians. After the delivery of the first chorus speech, the play opens in an ante-room in the King’s Palace and the characters present the two scenes in the first act of ‘Henry V’. A mock playbill at the start of the film reads: The chronicle history of King Henry the Fift with his battell fought at Agincourt in France by Will Shakespeare will be played by the Lord Chamberlain’s men at the Globe Playhouse this day the first of May 1600 [With acknowledgement to the BFI cataloguers for the synopsis].
