Synopsis
First in a series of four programmes, presented by Penny Gore, featuring music written for Shakespeare’s plays. A team of actors joins the BBC Symphony Orchestra for specially recorded scenes from Hamlet by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. These are preceded by the first Russian musical work written for a play by this ‘inspired barbarian. Also included:
