- Synopsis
- A programme in the Open University Renaissance and Reformation Course. Cicely Havely looks at scenes in King Lear to which the Fool’s role is central and tries to analyse his part in the play’s action and poetry. She places the Fool in the Renaissance context of court fools and compares his arguments with the writings of Robert Armin (read by Colin Blakely), a professional clown who first played the part in Shakespeare’s company.
