Synopsis
Screwball courtroom comedy with songs. Showgirl Peggy Harper (Hutton) is engaged to lawyer Oliver Clarke (Tufts), She is a compulsive liar and admits falsely to the murder of her producer-boss Wallace Brent (Freeman) so Oliver will defend her and boost his reputation. She is acquitted and the engagement is broken off. A detective discovers that a disgruntled Shakespearean actor is the murderer. Peggy and Oliver are re-united. The murder, Peter (Chekhov), is an Eastern European Shakespearean who wants to be in Brent’s revival of Hamlet and it is later revealed that he has murdered other actors while playing the role. At the end of the film Oliver is playing in Hamlet with Peter, and Peggy and the police step in to prevent his murder.
