Synopsis
First in a series of ten radio programmes in which various aspects of Shakespeare’s life and work are discussed by scholars and theatre practitioners.
In this episode the speaker is Margaret Webster, producer-director of Shakespeare in the 1930s and 1940s, who introduces Shakespeare as a playwright in the context of his time. Illustrative excerpts from Shakespeare’s plays and poems are read by Basil Hoskins.
