Macbeth Follies

Synopsis
Unbroadcast sound material comprising a short
self-reflexive spoof recorded privately by Mercury Theatre members in April, 1940, entitled Macbeth Follies. Welles recites from III ii ‘we have scotch’d the snake not kill’d it’ and III iv ‘it will have blood; they say, blood will have blood’ (Welles laughs). Welles jokes that he would welcome a loan as he doesn’t know how he will pay for breakfast and says he is thinking of going into partnership with Olivier to stage plays.
