Synopsis
Live relay of the Saturday matinee performance of Gounod’s opera from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Stage direction is by Guy Joosten and television direction by Gary Halvorson. Roberto Alagna and Anna Netrebko sing the title roles. Placido Domingo conducts the Metropolitan Opera and Chorus. The Met’s production is introduced by presenter Peter Gelb.

Figures
The Met transmitted Romeo et Juliette live via satellite to high-definition screens at five New York City public high schools. Some 2,000 students and family members attended free. The Met reported a worldwide audience of 97,000 on 600 screens and a box office gross of $1.65 million.
