Notes

General
`Commissioned for the opening of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center..., the opera was an extraordinary flop. Franco Zeffirelli created a production so overwrought and overstocked that it broke the stage’s brand new turntable (creating a logistical mess for many operas that first season)'. Edward Rothstein. The New York Times, September 29, 1991.
