Tina Packer

Synopsis: Discussion series spotlighting prominent women from the theatre. In this episode Linda Winer (Newsday critic) talks to Tina Packer, the founder, president and artistic director of Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Massachusetts. The Company is dedicated to authentic performance of Shakespeare’s works, as well as new works that emulate Shakespeare’s ‘social and political focus’. The company trains actors in classical technique and runs educational programmes for children. Packer talks about the history of the company, what inspires her about Shakespeare, and her plans to recreate the Rose Playhouse in the Berkshires. She also speaks on why she feels women are eminently suited to be theatrical directors.
