According to the programme notes in London Calling, more than half of the programmes were produced specially for the General Overseas Service, while the rest is taken from ‘classic’ BBC productions of the previous 20 years.

The series was transmitted as part of the ‘Shakespeare Quatercentenary’ celebrations of the General Overseas Service. Broadcast in two 30-minute parts. Part 1: 22/6/1964, Part 2: 29/6/1964
