Synopsis
Radio broadcast. Second in a series of 26 weekly programmes "designed as an anthology of the best-known and best-loved speeches and scenes" from Shakespeare’s better known plays. Broadcast in two parts, this episode showcases ‘the best of’ Romeo and Juliet, presenting the love and death scenes with William Eedle and Ann Bell in the title roles. The second episode, broadcast a week later, focuses on the character of the nurse (Sybil Thorndike).

According to the programme notes in London Calling, more than half of the programmes were produced specially for the General Overseas Service, while the rest is taken from ‘classic’ BBC productions of the previous 20 years.
History
The series was transmitted as part of the ‘Shakespeare Quatercentenary’ celebrations of the General Overseas Service.
