General: In the stage production designer Bert Neumann had the auditorium copied on the stage, then tilted it up hydraulically at such a steep angle that both the Romans and the Goths faced the impending fall with equal helplessness towards the end.

It has been said that the request for Simons to direct the play came in the wake of the attacks on the World Trade Center, as Mueller’s re-working evokes an apocalyptic vision of revenge and counter-revenge, culminating in the destruction of Rome and the legacy of the Roman culture.
Awards: Nominated as one out of 10 most remarkable German-language theatre productions of the year for the annual German theatre festival ‘Theatertreffen’ (2004) in Berlin.
