Synopsis
Combined book and audio CD. The CD includes Orson Welles in a 1938 recording of Mark Antony’s funeral oration speech and Adrian Lester giving the same speech in the Arkangel recording. There are performances from Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Simon Russell Beale and Richard Dreyfuss. Photographs include scenes from the 1953 film starring Marlon Brando as Mark Antony, the RSC’s 1972 production directed by Trevor Nunn (Mark Dignam as Caesar) and the RSC’s 2004 regional touring production directed by David Farr. In addition to the playtext, there are articles including ‘In Production: Julius Caesar through the Years’ by Robert Ormsby, ‘Julius Caesar in Popular Culture’ by Douglas Lanier, ‘A Voice Coach’s Perspective on Speaking Shakespeare’ by Andrew Wade and ‘In the Age of Shakespeare’ by Thomas Garvey.
