Cambridge Footlights Revue, The

Synopsis
`The Cellar Tapes’ revue. Includes a sketch (7 mins), written and acted, by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, which parodies a Shakespeare masterclass. The speech being worked on is from Troilus and Cressida, Ulysses speech on ‘time’ (III iii l2021). Fry is the director (an impersonation possibly based on John Barton) and Laurie the student who is instructed how to interpret the word ‘time’ correctly. The same sketch is performed by Christopher Luscombe and Malcolm McKee in THE SHAKESPEARE REVUE catalogued separately.

General
Note: ‘The Cellar Tapes’, directed by Jan Ravens, was first performed in 1981 as part of the Cambridge Footlights Revue. Following a countrywide tour, the show went to the Edinburgh Festival where it was the first winner of the coveted Edinburgh Fringe’s Perrier Award for comedy.
