Synopsis
Comedy burlesque. The Mudford Amateur Dramatic Society stages Hamlet. The village doctor (Claudius) is called away during a performance and changes into everyday clothes in front of the audience; the Ghost gets stuck in the trapdoor, the scenery collapses to reveal Ophelia in her dressing gown, the prompter falls asleep, Hamlet fails to stab himself and is pelted by eggs by the audience in the gallery.
