Merchant of Venice, The

Synopsis
Animated burlesque. Antonio is a Venetian ice-cream man; Bassanio a navvy. Antonio is brought to court by Shylock. After shedding flood of tears (which cause the flowers in her window box to grow) Portia (a housemaid) defends her lover in court. She demands that Shylock be asked to produce his ration book which shows that he has spent his meat tickets. The sub-titling is made to emanate from a gramophone. Shylock is portrayed by the tragedian Ward R. Street (Wardour Street).
