It was McEwan’s performance as "mercurial Olivia" opposite Tutin’s Viola for Peter Hall’s Royal Shakespeare Company production of the play in 1958 that established McEwan’s fame as a classical actress. cf. also ‘Revolutionary Geraldine’, Radio Times, 6-12 March 1971, p. 4-5.
