Capulets and the Montagues, The

Synopsis
Panel discussion of two new productions for the 2001 New York City Opera season - Vincenzo Bellini’s Capuleti e Montecchi (The Capulets and the Montagues) and Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado. Opera excerpts from The Capulets and the Montagues are performed by Mary Dunleavy (Giuletta) and Sarah Connolly (Romeo), accompanist: William Barto Jones. Panelists are director Thor Steingraber, conductor Joseph Rescigno, Mary Dunleavy and Sarah Connolly moderated by Nimet Habachy. The panelists discuss Bellini’s bel canto musical techniques, and the decision to set New York City Opera’s production in 1910 Italy. Two arias from the opera are performed - ‘O Quante Valte’ and Romeo’s ‘T’uccise un Figlio’.
