First Television Broadcast: Demonstration at Radio Show

Synopsis
The first experimental television transmission shown at the Radio Olympia exhibition. Two programmes were transmitted from Alexandra Palace daily throughout the Radio Show to September 5th. The programme included excerpts from films including AS YOU LIKE IT (1936) directed by Paul Czinner which was screened c12.49 and 17.19. Interestingly neither Shakespeare’s name, nor Olivier’s were mentioned.

The Times (26 August 1936, p. 12. Issue 47463. column G.) lists the scheduled programmes. The notice began ‘The first organised television programmes in this country will be broadcast today’.
