Synopsis
Stage recording of Peymann’s production for the famed Berliner Ensemble transmitted on German television. Initially set in an eerie sterile monochrome landscape, the production charts the demise of Richard’s reign with flying lumps of mud and an accumulation of stage debris. With Michael Maertens in the title role and Veit Schubert as Bolingbroke.

History
Recording of a stage performance at the Theatre am Schiffbauerdamm, Berlin. Previously, only extracts from the play had been transmitted on the German TV station 3Sat to celebrate the 38. German theatre festival in Berlin (1-24 May 2001). The play premiered June 30, 2000 in Berlin.
Awards
'Friedrich-Luft-Preis’ for best Berlin production in 2000.
